Portugal’s Cimpor invests in new cement factory in Mozambique

Lisbon, Portugal, 1 Sept – Portuguese cement company Cimpor – Cimentos de Portugal plans to invest 120 million euros in Mozambique, most fo which will be channelled into a new production unit for cement and clinker, Portugal’s Diário Económico newspaper reported.

According to a spokesperson from the Portuguese cement company, cited by the newspaper, the new Cimpor factory will be located in Dondo district, on the outskirts of the city of Beira, in Sofala province, and will be “an investment that will provide an adequate response to demand, without recourse to imports, which will greatly benefit Cimpor’s profitability in this area.”

In Mozambique, Where Cimpor has been operating since 1994, the company currently has a production capacity of cement of 0.7 million tonnes per year, mainly from its factory in Matola, Maputo province. (macauhub)
