Luena, Angola, 4 Sept – The runway at Luena airport, in Angola’s Moxico province, which has been under construction since 2008, will receive medium and large aircraft as of 15 September, an official of the Chinese company announced.
The contract, which is the responsibility of Sinohydro Corp is estimated to cost US$9.5 million.
The refurbishment work on the Luena airport runway included increasing it from 2,400 metres long and 30 metres wide to 3,350 metres in length and 45 metres width.
A technical commission from the Public Works sector is due to travel to Luena next week to prepare the landing conditions of the inaugural flight of Angolan airline Taag.
The Chinese engineering company Sinohydro Corp this year invested an estimated US$2.4 billion in Angola, in the construction and refurbishment of several social and economic infrastructures. (macauhub)
