Xiamen, China, 9 Sept – The head of the Macau government, Edmund Ho, Tuesday praised the results of the work for joint promotion with the Chinese province of Fukien over the last ten years, to Portuguese-speaking countries.

At a meeting with the secretary of the Fukien provincial Committee, Lu Zhangong, and with the governor of the province, Huang Xiaojing, Ho noted that the ten years fo bilateral cooperation had made “the two regions the first to create new areas of cooperation, bringing together the capital network of Macau, he European Union and Portuguese-speaking networks.”

On the day that marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Commission for Promotion of Economic Cooperation between Fukien and Macau, the Chief Executive noted the “preponderant role” the commission had played in the promotion of cooperation, prosperity of the two regions and sustainable development and diversification of Macau’s industries.

“Under the theme ‘attractying investments inside, investing outside,’ Macau and Fukien made joint efforts to explore Portuguese-speaking and European Union markets, creating opportunities for businesspeople from both regions abroad and boosting the role of Macau as a trade services platform,” Ho noted.

Visits and attendance at fairs in the European Union, Brazil, Mozambique and Angola since 1999 have also contributed, according to Ho, to attracting investment to Fukien province, via small and medium sized foreign companies.

Ho was present Tuesday at the opening of the 13th International China Trade and Investment Fair, in Xiamen, Fukien province. (macauhub)
