Luanda, Angola, 17 Sept – Saurimo airport, in the provincial capital of Angola’s Lunda Sul province, re-opened to air trinohydro Corporation that took some two years, the Angolan authorities announced.
Refurbishment of the airport, which began at the end of 2007, was part of a government programme estimated to cost US$400 million with a view to refurbish all the runways at Angola’s airports and airfields.
The airport now has a runway that is 3,400 metres long and 45 metres wide.
Angolan national airline Taag Wednesday started flights between Luanda and Saurimo that will be carried out three times a week using Boeing 737-700 aircraft.
With an area of 77,637 square kilometres, Lunda Sul province has a population of 130,000 people. (macauhub)
