China grants Guinea Bissau around 7 million euros in financial and food aid

Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 22 Sept – China’s deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Zhai Jun said Monday in Bissau that China had granted Guinea Bissau financial aid of some 5.9 million euros.

The Chinese official signed technical, food and financial cooperation documents along with the Guinea Bissau Defence Minister, Artur Silva.

Food aid donated by the Chinese government to Guinea Bissau is estimated to total 998,000 euros.

The Chinese deputy minister gave assurances that the Chinese government wanted to develop and boost bilateral relations.

The Guinean Defence Minister requested aid from the Chinese government to “build the judicial city, the technical project for which is being finalised, as well as refurbishment of the Presidential Palace, which was destroyed in the political and military conflict of 1998.”

During his visit to Bissau the Chinese deputy minister visited the building works, funded by Beijing, of the Government Palace and the Military Hospital.

China’s cooperation in Guinea Bissau mainly involves construction of several infrastructures and the fisheries sector.

After Bissau Zhai Jun is due to visit Cape Verde. (macauhub)
