22 September 2009

Maputo, Mozambique, 22 Sept – The Mozambican Institute for Export Promotion (Ipex), the Centre for Investment Promotion (CPI), the Confederation of Mozambican Economic Associations (CTA) and the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (Cacomo) are preparing a business mission to Macau and Mainland China in October.

A source from the CPI told Macauhub that Mozambique’s participation in the Macau International Fair (MIF), between 22 and 25 October, aimed to make contact with Chinese businesspeople, with a view to seeking out business opportunities in the trade, industry, technology, investment and tourism sectors.

As well as taking part in Mozambique’s business mission to MIF, the Mozambican businesspeople will also visit the fairs at Shenzhen, on the border with Hong Kong, Hangzhou and Yiwu, in Zhejiang province.

Over the last 15 years China has become a strategic partner for Mozambique in several sectors, notably the construction sector.

Two business missions from china have travelled to Mozambique this year for exploratory contacts with the country’s investment promotion authorities.

China is one of the ten largest investor countries in Mozambique.

In the banking sector there are Macau investors in Moza Banco, a project that involves Stanley Ho, the Macau casino magnate via his company Geocapital and a group of Mozambican investors which owns 51 percent of the bank. (macauhub)
