Portugal Telecom announces strategic plan for East Timor

Dili, East Timor, 22 Sept – Portugal Telecom (PT) Tuesday in Dili announced the company’s new strategic plan for East Timor where the telecommunications operator wants to boost investment and implement new projects.

PT employs 1,100 people, both directly and indirectly, in East Timor and has invested over US$47 million in the telecommunications sector there.

Our presence in East Timor is strategic and we want to implement projects that quickly make telecommunications and the information society accessible to the masses, providing more and better services to the Timorese,” the chief executive of PT, Zeinal Bava, told Portuguese news agency Lusa.

PT plans to make East Timor one of the most developed countries in the region in terms of telecommunications.

Timor Telecom, in which the Portuguese operator has a majority stake and manages the company, operates in the fixed-line and mobile market, with around 220,000 customers and 68 percent mobile coverage. (macauhub)
