China Investment Corp wants to buy Brazilian debt

24 September 2009

Beijing, China, 24 Sept – Chinese sovereign fund, China Investment Corp (CIC), is interested in buying Brazilian treasury bonds, the under secretary for the Brazilian Treasury, Paulo Valle told the Dow Jones news agency.

Valle, who is taking part in the China-Latin America investment forum in Beijing, said that he had met with officials from CIC to discuss the issue.
“The officials with whom I spoke showed particular interest in inflation-linked bonds in reals, but we did not close any specific deal,” he said.

Valle also said he believed that “there is room to improve our relationship with the China Investment Corp fund.”

The CIC had around US$300 billion in total assets at the end of 2008 and has been diversifying its foreign portfolio over the last few months, as the recovery of the global markets creates new investment opportunities. (macauhub)
