Praia, Cape Verde, 23 Oct – The First Cape Verde International Construction and Housing Fair opens its doors Friday through to Sunday in Praia, Cape Verde, with the participation of 85 companies from six countries.
The Fair is promoted by the Ministry for Decentralisation, Housing and Land Planning, in partnership with the Cape Verde International Fair (FIC) and aims to drive innovation in the area of technologies and types of construction applicable to housing, in a country which, according to official figures, had a deficit of over 80,000 houses.
Of the 85 companies taking part, 49 are from cape Verde, 23 from Spain (all from the Canary islands), 10 from Portugal and one from each of three countries – Brazil, France and Luxembourg.
The Cape Verdean government named 2009 as “National Housing Year” with the aim of establishing a significant partnership for the sector, having approved the “House for All” project with a view to carrying out a number of measures to reduce the housing deficit significantly by 2011 and giving the country a National Housing Policy for the 2010/15 period.
