Lubango, Angola, 9 Nov – Lubango, capital of Angola’s Huila province, will get high-speed internet access via fiber optic cable from December, Telecommunications and IT minister Jose de Carvalho da Rocha has said.
The minister said on a visit to Lubango last week that 75 percent of fiber optic cables have already been laid. Angola Telecon engineers have installed broad-band networks in the center of the city, as well as at the main stadiums for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and Lubango’s international airport.
Heavy seasonal rainfall, however, has hampered prompt completion of the broad-band internet network, which will be operational when Lubango hosts Group D of Africa’s showcase soccer finals early next year, said the minister. Work on the fiber optic net began in September and was scheduled to finish in December. (macauhub)
