12 November 2009

Praia, Cape Verde, 12 Nov – The governments of China and Cape Verde inked an agreement Wednesday in Praia to construct a new national stadium on the outskirts of the islands’ capital, officials said.

The €12.6 million project is being funded by Chinese aid and interest-free loans under bilateral technical and economic cooperation accords.

The new arena will be in the Monte Vaca district of Praia’s suburbs and will also have a running track to permit various sports to be practiced. Building of the stadium is scheduled to take 20 months from start to completion.

Cape Verde and China established diplomatic relations on 25 April, 1976 and two-way cooperation has increased and diversified steadily ever since, with China today being one of the archipelago’s key development partners. (macauhub)
