Firms licensed to prospect for diamonds in Mozambique

Maputo, Mozambique, 13 Nov – Mozambican Minster of Natural Resources Esperança Bias has authorized mining company Mpanda Limitada to prospect for diamonds in the Mossurize district of the central province of Manica.

The prospecting license for Mpanda, which has been carrying out geological surveys and prospecting in Mozambique since 2008, runs until mid-2014.

Eight parties (seven firms and an individual) have been prospecting for diamonds on the banks of the River Sabi since the end of 2008. The companies involved are Mpanda, Preciosa, Gems Exploration Limited, Geominas, Monte Binga, Manica Land Mining Limited and Sivas.

Mozambique is rich in various minerals and precious stones including gold and emeralds. Major investment has already been made in the country’s coal sector. (macauhub)
