Portugal’s EDP Group inaugurates Espírito Santo dam in Brazil

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 19 Nov – EDP – Energias de Portugal Wednesday opened a small hydroelectric power plant, in the state of Espírito Santo, in the southeast of Brazil, as a result of an investment of around 160 million reals.

The small Santa Fé power plant, in the city of Alegre, has an installed capacity of 29 megawatts, which is enough to supply a city with some 100,000 residents.

The dam, whose commercial operation as launched in May of this year and has only just been officially inaugurated, began to be built in November 2007.

Of the total investment, 124 million reals were obtained through loans from Brazilian bank Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Económico e Social (BNDES), a government financial institution, and by the Bank of Brazil.

In Brazil Energias do Brazil controls distribution companies, Bandeirante (Sao Paulo), Escelsa (Esprito Santo state) and Enersul (Mato Grosso do Sul), as well as generation companies, EDP Lajeado, Energesy and Enerpeixe, and sales company Enertrade. (macauhub)
