Maputo, Mozambique, 24 Nov – Two South African companies said Monday in Maputo they had acquired 68.5 percent of Mozambican company Intra, a Maputo-based wireless broadband Internet access provider.

The transaction – in which Dimension Data Middle East and Africa and Convergence Wireless acquired 38.5 percent and 30 percent, respectively, will make it possible for Intra to expand its current coverage of the Mozambican market, by investing in updating the company’s network infrastructures and the launch of improved products and services, according to a statement.

Internet Solutions (IS), owned by Dimension Data, will be responsible for the operational management of the acquisition and will serve the market segments of small and medium-sized companies, both in growth in Mozambique, said Karim Premji, chairman and founding member of Intra.

Thus, Intra’s business division, which serves these segments, will be called IS Mozambique, whilst the Intra brand will continue to operate on the individual consumer market, Premji added. (macauhub)
