Madrid, Spain, 30 Dec – The Spanish government has approved a 3.3 million euro credit line to Cape Verde to be used to expand the desalination plant at the Palmarejo power plant on the Island of Santiago.
The funding will be used to plan, assemble and launch the process as well as to secure technical assistance for exploration of the desalination plant’s new production line.
The aims of the project include increasing distribution of drinking water in the Cape Verdean capital, Praia, making it possible for new customers to be linked to the water supply and reducing the cost of extracting salt from sea water.
The loan from the Spanish government, provided through the Fund for Development Aid, is aimed at reducing poverty and ensuring long-lasting and sustainable economic growth for Cape Verde. (macauhub)
