Luanda, Angola, 5 Jan – TAAG Angola Airlines invested nearly US$2 million in personnel training in 2009, the spokesman of the company’s Management Commission, Rui Carreira, has announced in Luanda.

During the same period TAAG conducted 90 training actions and upgraded its teaching centre, involving about 1,800 trainees, Carreira told the Angolan news agency Angop.

This training project is a part of the actions taken under the government’s plan to restructure the sector included in the programme to reorganise the airline, he said.

“We’re making structural changes to adjust the company to new challenges, following good practices recommended by the aeronautics industry, which namely include the production of new manuals for operational procedures and continual personnel training actions,” he added.

Angola’s flag carrier has nearly 4,000 employees and is involving all areas in the process of personnel renewal and training, ranging from maintenance, security, logistics, commercial planning and land operations to financing, among others.

The TAAG Management Commission was established in November 2008 by joint order from the Ministries of Economy, Finance and Transports in the context of the company’s reorganisation programme.
