Economy of Guangdong, China, up 9.5 percent in 2009

Guangzhou, China, 7 Jan – The economy of China’s Guangdong province recorded 9.5 percent growth in 2009, one percentage point above the government prediction, the province’s governor, Huang Huahua, has stated.

The province’s gross domestic product rose to 3.776 trillion yuan (US$533 billion), Huang Huahua said during a Wednesday conference.

The economy is predicted to grow by 9 percent this year, he added.

In the first quarter of 2009 the province’s economy grew by 5.8 percent, below the national average of 6.l percent, as it was more affected by the international financial crisis. However, growth increased to 8.6 percent in the first nine months of the year, or 0.9 percent above the national average.
