Campo Grande, Brazil, 11 Jan – Two Chinese business missions are set to visit Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul state in coming weeks, a sign that China’s Chery group is seeking an automobile assembly plant location, the Brazilian press has reported.
One of the missions is travelling to Campo Grande specifically for that purpose. If negotiations are successful, it will be Chery’s first industrial unit in Brazil, where plans call for an initial production of 150,000 per year beginning in 2012.
Chery is also studying possible locations for its first factory in Brazil. Initial options were the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Ceara. Mato Grosso do Sul is now also on the list, following the visit by Governor Andre Puccinelli to China.
The first of the Chinese missions arrives in Campo Grande this week. The head of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Charles Tang, says it will include representatives of the solar power and tanning industries.
The second Chinese mission should arrive in Campo Grande one or two weeks after the first one and will be headed by Gu Jing, president of the Chinese Finance, Science and Technology Association.
This high level mission will include representatives from various industrial sectors, among them the Chery manufacturer and a tractor producer. (macauhub)
