Benguela, Angola, 19 Jan – The Provincial Directorate of Urbanism and Housing of Benguela plans to build 135,000 homes by 2012, the director of the institution, Zacarias Kamuenho told Angolan news agency Angop.
According to Kamuenho, the project will benefit 810,000 families and will be carried out in phases and by sub-programmes, with the first homes due to be handed over at the end of this year.
According to Kamuenho 20 percent of the project is due to be implemented this year and 40 percent in 2011, whilst the remaining 40 percent will be concluded in 2012.
He added that this year the sector would build infrastructures across an area of 900 hectares as part of the four sub-programmes: Public initiatives, private initiatives, cooperatives and guided self-construction.
He also said that, according to the existing programme, the government would deliver the first urbanised blocks in the second quarter of this year. (macauhub)
