Macau, China, 25 Jan – Macau received 21.75 million visitors in 2009, which was a fall of 5.1 percent against 2008, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said Friday in Macau.
Of that total, almost 11 million people were from mainland China, despite a drop of 5.4 percent against the figure for 2008, 6.7 million were from Hong Kong (4.1 percent fewer), 1.29 million from Taiwan (1.8 percent fewer) and 332,000 from Malaysia (a fall of 22.4 percent).
Japan, which sent 379,000 visitors to Macau, saw a rise of 3.4 percent.
In December 2009 Macau welcomed 2.5 million visitors, which was 6.7 percent more than in the same month of 2008, according to the MacauNews news agency. (macauhub)
