World Bank to fund Mozambican private companies to manage water supply

28 January 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 28 Jan – The International Finance Corporation (IFC), an organ of the World Bank for financing the private sector, has said it will grant support to the Mozambican private sector to manage the country’s water supply, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

The paper added that the IFC was due Wednesday in Maputo to sign a contract with the Fund for Water Supply Investment and Assets (Fipag), under the terms of which a study will be carried out on the strategic options for the private sector to take part in the management of the water supply.

The contract will also promote participation of the domestic private sector in providing water supply services in urban areas, with a view to establishing a national water industry. (macauhub)
