Praia, Cape Verde, 2 Feb – The Municipal Council of Sal Island via Prohabit has signed a 300 million escudo (2.9 million euros) financing contract with Banco Interatlântico to start construction of 540 social housing units, the Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress has reported.
The contract signed on Friday involves the building of 540 units costing about 1.3 billion escudos (12 million euros), and is basically meant to rehouse shantytown dwellers.
The homes follow different typologies and will be priced from 1.8 million escudos to 4 million escudos. They are meant for people with scant resources as well as those with an intermediate economic situation.
Sal Councillor Jorge Figueiredo said that besides dealing with the island’s housing gap, the project represented an image and strategy for Sal and other municipalities also suffering from a serious housing shortage. (macauhub)
