Lisbon, Portugal, 9 Feb – The prime minister of Sao Tome and Principe, Rafael Branco, Monday in Lisbon called for Portuguese oil company Galp Energia to be involved in oil and gas exploration in his country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

“The government of Sao Tome and Principe would very much like Galp to take part,” in the oil and gas exploration process, as part of the block auction due to take place by the end of March, Branco said.

“We already have all our preparatory work concluded. We are going to start negotiating with some companies that have rights in our Exclusive Economic Zone so that, when the auction takes place, the zone will be free of any commitments,” he said.

Branco also said that he hoped to conclude negotiations with Galp before returning to Sao Tome in about a week’s time.

Branco arrived in Portugal last weekend for a one week working visit. (macauhub)
