Work on new airport in Luanda, Angola expected to be finished in March

Luanda, Angola, 18 Feb – The second phase of refurbishment and expansion work on 4 de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda, is due to be concluded in March, the chairman of Angolan state airport manager, Enana, said.

At the end of a visit by the Transport Minister, Augusto Tomás to the airport on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Enana and air carrier Taag, Jorge Correia de Melo gave assurances that once work on the airport was finished it would be as well-equipped as the best global airports.

Work to expand and modernise the airport, which has increased passenger capacity from 1.2 million to 3.6 million per year, is expected to cost US$150 million.

The chairman of Enana said that Catumbela International Airport, in Benguela province, would also be concluded this year.

Luanda’s new international airport is also currently under construction in Viana and will have two double runways and capacity to receive 10 million passengers per year.

The new airport, which is being built by China International Fund Limited, is due to be concluded in 2010. (macauhub)
