Angola to establish renewable energy centre

19 February 2010

Huambo, Angola, 19 Feb – The Angolan Energy Ministry plans to set up a research and technology centre for renewable energies in Huambo province, ministerial representative Lando Joao said, cited by the newspaper Jornal de Angola.

Besides establishing a research centre and a wind and solar power map with a view to indicating Angola’s potential, the government is also seeking to educate Angolan personnel about renewable energies, Joao said during a meeting on the subject, in which the main speaker was a US expert.

“These are the first steps being taken to that end,” he added.

Angola thus seeks to boost its energy capacities, lower operational costs with thermal systems and ensure sustainable socio-economic development. (macauhub)
