22 February 2010

Seoul, South Korea, 22 Feb – South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company has announced reception of an order to build five tankers for Angola’s state-held Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis (Sonangol).

Each tanker will each have a capacity of 160,000 tonnes and be delivered between mid-2011 and 2013. The order’s total value is 400 billion won (US$344.7 million).

Daewoo Executive President Nam Sang-tae affirmed in a note that the order results from a longstanding relationship between Daewoo and the Angolan state-held company.

Sonangol’s first contract with the South Korean company was in 1995 when it ordered five natural gas transport vessels and five oil tankers. (macauhub)
