Porto Amboim, Angola, 25 Feb – The Dutch company Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) plans to build a shipyard to support oil industry activities in Porto Amboim municipality, in central Angola’s Kwanza Sul province, a company spokesperson stated.
Plans call for the project execution phase to begin this June. The US$180 million investment should lead to the creation of 300 jobs.
Besides construction of the shipyard, a company will be set up to transport oil using three ships, said Patricia Lopes of HMC during the project launching ceremony.
The next step will be the public consultation on the project, after which the facility’s licence can be obtained so that work can start on schedule in June, Lopes said.
Heerema Marine Contractors designs, manufactures, transports and builds facilities for offshore oil and gas operations.
For six decades the company has served oil and energy companies in the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, Far East and Brazil.
