Lobito, Angola, 2 March – The assembly of the high voltage power transmission line of the north/centre system from the Cambambe hydroelectric dam, via Gabela, to the Quileva sub-station is now underway, Angolan news agency Angop reported.
Citing a member of staff of the company charged with the work, Kennet Andersson, the agency said that the project, which began 8 months ago by setting up work sites and importing materials, had already cleared 60 kilometres of the 250 kilometres along the Gabela (Kawanza Sul province)/Quileva (Benguela province) stretch.
The Cambambe dam is also undergoing modernisation and expansion carried out by Brazilian company Odebrecht. The project is an investment of US$1.5 billion.
The Cambambe hydroelectric facility, which was built between 1958 and 1962 and provides electricity to the provinces of Luanda, Kwanza Norte and Kwanza Sul, is also a link to the Capanda power facility, located in Malanje province. (macauhub)
