Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 10 March – Japan has handed over to Guinea Bissau 1 billion CFA francs (around 1,5 million euros) to support economic activity, imports of essential goods and funding for local development projects.
The convention for the funding was signed by the Guinea Bissau Foreign Affairs Minister, Adelino Mano Queta and the Japanese ambassador (based in Senegal), Takashi Saito.
According to Ambassador Saito, the cash provided by the Japanese government will be used to buy essential products and to fund local development projects.
The Japanese diplomat noted that his country had been providing this type of funding since 2007 when Bissau and Tokyo re-launched diplomatic relations, which came to an end as a result of the 1998/9 civil war in Guinea Bissau. (macauhub)
