Maputo, Mozambique, 23 Mar – The Italian government will provide 12 million euros to support the Mozambican state budget during the three-year period 2010-12, per the terms of an agreement signed on Monday in Maputo.
The agreement was endorsed by the Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Oldemiro Baloi, and by the Italian ambassador to Mozambique, Carlo Lo Cascio. The amount increases by 600,000 euros the triennial support Italy previously earmarked for the state budget.
The financial planning agreed to by the two governments also envisages that the Italian government will provide more than 60 million euros for the next three-year period in the form of donations for state budget support, common funds and other contributions, especially for projects in the agriculture, education and health sectors.
Some nations in the Group of 19 countries and institutions comprising the Mozambican budget donors group delayed their support this year to press the government to implement political reforms. The parties involved reached an agreement last week.
