Japan to provide food aid to Mozambique

26 March 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 26 Oct – Mozambique and Japan Friday in Maputo are due to sign an agreement for Japanese food aid in the form of rice worth US$10 million, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

A source from the Japanese embassy told the paper that the donation would contribute to greater food security in Mozambique and its distribution would be carried out by the private sector across the country.

Adding that Mozambique had not yet managed to achieve food security, due to droughts, floods and other natural disasters, the source added that food aid was a significant part of Japan’s aid to Mozambique. (macauhub)
