Maputo, Mozambique, 12 April – The Mozambican government last week launched a public tender for the refurbishment of the Chicamba and Mavuzi hydroelectric power facilities, in Manica province.
Refurbishment of the two plants, which could begin this year, requires an investment of US$54 million according to Mozambican newspaper Notícias.
The pre-qualification tender for the contractor was requested by the owner of the two plants, state electricity company, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM).
The work will make it possible, amongst other things, to make use of the total installed capacity of the two facilities, of 84 megawatts, and increase their levels of reliability in teh regular supply of electricity.
The facilities have not received any maintenance work for around 40 years.
The Chicamba and Mavuzi power plants currently produce 68 MW, 30 MW from Mavuzi and 38 MW from Chicamba. (macauhub)
