Praia, Cape Verde, 15 April – Seven out of every 10 cape Verdean inhabitants have a mobile phone according to figures presented Wednesday by the National Communication Agency (ANAC), according to which mobile telephone service subscribers now total 350,000, out of a total population of 500,000.
According to figures from the regulator, mobile telephone services saw the greatest growth rising from 277667 in 2008 to 349,473 at the end of 2009, with traffic rising 7 percent against 2008.
There are two mobile telephone operators on the archipelago, CV Móvel, of the Cabo Verde Telecom group, and TMais, which entered the market in 2007.
According to CV Móvel, its network currently has 300,000 customers, with the remainder belonging to TMais. (macauhub)
