Angolan government to sell land at low cost to reduce housing prices

10 May 2010

Luanda, Angola, 10 May – The Angolan government has the conditions to sell land at low cost so that property developers and builders can construct affordable housing, the Minister for Urbanism and Construction, José Ferreira, stated in Luanda.

Provincial governments have been told to speed the pace of drawing up master plans for capitals and partial urbanisation plans with a view to reducing housing costs, Ferreira said at the Sunday closing ceremony of the Angolan Real Estate Fair (SIMA).

The government’s aim is to lower the cost of land so that property developers can also lower the cost of housing, and to rein in real estate speculation in order to offer more housing, especially for the low and middle income population segments, he added.

SIMA ran from last Thursday through Sunday at the Luanda International Fair complex, attended by more than 103 national and international exhibitors. (macauhub)
