Maputo, Mozambique, 7 June – The Highland Mining Resources Corporation plans to invest US$20 million this year to triple tantalite production at the Morropino mine in Zambezia province’s Ile district, the company’s director said.
The investment aims to up the mine’s production to 450,000 pounds, with a view to increasing the volume of tantalite exports to North American, European and Chinese markets, Dalio Arsane told the Maputo-based daily Noticias.
The mine contains tantalite deposits to exploit under a ten-year concession contract. It began production last January after a period of suspension due to the international financial and economic crisis.
Zambezia governor Francisco Itae Meque toured the Ile district several days ago and visited the Highland Mining Resources concession to learn about the tantalite production process. He noted that the exploitation of mineral resources there was not yet producing the desired socio-economic impact on the life of local populations. (macauhub)
