Italy’s ENI discovers more oil in Angola

Luanda, Angola, 13 Jul – Angola’s national oil company Sonangol and Italy’s ENI Angola discovered this month a new deepwater oil well, indicates a note released on Monday in Luanda.

The well designated Cabaça SE-1 is located 100 km off the Angolan coast and was drilled in water 470 metres deep to a depth of 4,221 meters below sea level, discovering a layer of 470 meters of oil-impregnated sands.

The well has yet to be tested. The two companies are planning to drill an evaluation well in the third quarter of 2010, to delineate and test the discovery.

Sonangol is the bloc concessionaire, with 15 percent, while ENI Angola as operator holds a 35 percent stake.

Other partners in this bloc are SSI Fifteen Limited (20 percent), Total E&P (15 percent), Falcon Oil Holding Angola (5 percent), Petrobras Internacional Braspetro (5 percent) and Statoil Angola Block 15/06 Award AS (5 percent). (macauhub)
