Praia, Cape Verde, 13 Jul – Main results of the 4th General Census of Population and Housing should be available in early August, the head of the National Statistics Office (INE) said on Monday in Praia.
Antonio Duarte told Portuguese news agency Lusa that even though data-gathering for the 2010 Census ended last week, it was still not possible to present the results because some figures must still be entered in the system so that the post-census survey can begin.
“First of all, to ensure security of the statistical information, we have to do the post-census survey, to eliminate double-counting, for example, and also to distinguish between visitors and residents. Finally, the indicators still need work, so we’ll only be able to release the data in late July or early August,” he said.
Duarte made his comments on the sidelines of World Population Day commemorations, marked in the Cape Verdean capital by a meeting devoted to the “2010 Census Round”.
Information for the 4th General Census of Population and Housing (2010 Census) was gathered from June 15th to 30th and counted support from the United Nations, Spanish cooperation and the African Development Bank (AfDB), among other institutions, and technical support from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
