Chinese company to build new pier for port of Cabinda, Angola

15 July 2010

Cabinda, Angola, 15 Jul – The China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) will build the new pier for the port of Cabinda, a project budgeted at US$20 million, Angolan news agency Angop reports.

The pier will be 319 metres long, with a 32-metre wide operating platform and capacity for two 130-metre long ships to dock at the same time.

The new structure will be built of steel and reinforced concrete and should make it easier and safer to receive large ships and handle cargo loading and unloading operations, according to Angolahub news.

The Chinese company should take nine months to complete, supervised by the Angolan Maritime and Port Institute (IMPA) and the Cabinda Port Company (EPC). It is meant to replace the current docking facility in that port, which is only 150 metres long and more than 50 years old. (macauhub)
