Macau, China, 26 July – Macau received 12.2 million visitors in the first six months of 2010, which was a rise of 17.9 percent against the same period of 2009, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said Friday in Macau.
Visitors from China were the biggest group, with 6.5 million, followed by those from Hong Kong (3.5 million), Taiwan (653,000), Japan (201,000), Malaysia (170,000) and South Korea (155,000).
Of that total, 5 million visitors entered Macau by sea (20.3 percent more), 6.3 million (17.2 percent more) arrived by land and the number of visitors that arrived in Macau by air rose to 831,000 (9.9 percent more).
Last June, Macau receive 2.4 million visitors (30.6 percent more year on year), an exceptional number due to the impact of the swine flu pandemic in the same month of 2009, most of which – 985,000 – were from China, according to news agency MacauNews. (macauhub)
