Portugal biggest foreign investor in Mozambique in first half of the year

Maputo, Mozambique, 10 Aug – Portugal was the country that invested most in Mozambique in the first six months of the year, according to the Mozambican Centre for Investment Promotion (CPI).

Evaristo Cumbane, of the CPI’s marketing and information department, said that Portugal’s direct investment totalled US$58.9 million.

After Portugal were Italy, Spain, China and South Africa with investments totalling US$22.4 million, or around four-fold the amount invested in the same period of 2009.

Cumbane also said that in the first half of the year 110 new investment projects worth US$600 million were approved with the agricultural sector receiving most of that amount.

Cumbane also said that the new projects would create some 7,000 new jobs. (macauhub)
