Macau population rises to 544,600 people in the second quarter

Macau, China, 11 Aug – Macau’s population was calculated at 544,600 people at the end of the second quarter, or 2,200 more people than in the January to March period, according to official figures published Tuesday by the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.

According to the Bureau, between April and June 2009 an extra 1,251 Chinese citizens had permits to travel freely to Hong Kong and Macau than in the first quarter of the year.

In the second quarter, there were 72,142 non-resident workers in Macau, or 701 fewer than in the first quarter, whilst the number of people authorised to reside in Macau was 847, or 1,101 people against the first three months of the year.

In the same period, 1,122 people were born, 577 males, a drop of 5.7 percent against the first quarter, and 446 deaths. (macauhub)
