18 August 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 18 Aug – Riversdale Moçambique plans to build a railway branch line to the Sena Railroad and a coal warehouse to store the product mined at the Benga mine, in the Moatize district of Mozambique’s Tete province, a company source told Macauhub in Maputo.

The source from Riversdale Moçambique, a subsidiary of Australian group Riversdale Mining, did not give details of the location or size of the coal warehouse, where the product will be kept until it is transported.

However, the source said that the project proposal would be publicly presented in Moatize Thursday.

Riversdale Mining plans to start mining coal at the beginning of 2011, and exports are expected to begin in the second half of the year.

A second phase of coal exports, according to Macauhub’s source, is expected to begin in 2014 when a new coal terminal is expected to be operating in the port of Beira. (macauhub)
