Build Angola group to produce cattle for slaughter

25 August 2010

Luanda, Angola, 25 Aug – A project to raise, slaughter and butcher cattle known as the Agri-livestock Integrated Production System (SAPI) is this year to be launched in Angola’s Huambo province, by the Build Angola group, the company’s press officer, Ana Paula said Tuesday in Luanda.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Ana Paula said that the project was an investment of at least US$30 million, was self-sustainable, which covers the entire production chain, from breeding the animals to distribution of the final products at retail outlets.

The Build Angola press officer also said that interested parties could apply to manage areas of 400 hectares of grazing land and 200 head of cattle, of which 100 would be for breeding and the remainder for slaughter.

“SAPI has a training and operations centre for neighbouring exploration areas, each with areas of up to 400 hectares, initially across the provinces of Huambo, Kwanza Sul and Malanje,” she said.

Paula said that the project’s coordinator, Gilson Costa, through this initiative wanted to develop the national meat market as a whole, which is why the project will set up self-sustainable farms.

The company is currently carrying out soil treatment work in the model farm, which will make it possible to sow appropriate grazing land to produce quality meat.

The Build Angola group, which is Brazilian-owned, also works in the real estate sector. (macauhub)
