Luanda, Angola, 31 Aug – Angola’s imports from Portugal in the first half of 2010 saw a drop of 21 percent to 870 million euros, or 5 percent of Portugal’s worldwide exports, Angolan newspaper O País reported.
The paper said that the percentage showed a clear drop in Angola’s overall weighting, as in the first half of 2009 Portugal’s exports to Angola accounted for 7.2 percent of Portugal’s total exports.
By month, the paper said that March saw the highest exports to Angola – 167.6 million or 5 percent of total exports- and January was the month with the fewest exports – 127 million euros or 4.8 percent of Portuguese exports.
O País reported that although there was a positive correlation between overall Portuguese exports and those that area sent to Angola, overall Angola lost importance, dropping one place in the list of main destination for Portuguese exports, having been replaced in fourth place by the United Kingdom.
