Belgium finances rural electricity projects in Mozambique

14 September 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 14 Sept – Belgium has donated 15 million euros to Mozambique for rural electricity projects under the terms of a funding agreement signed Friday in Maputo.

According to the Mozambican press the two countries agreed that Mozambique’s part of the funding would be provided through provision of human resources, materials and other resources.

Mozambique’s Energy Minister, Salvador Namburete, said that the funding would provide electricity to schoold, health centres and water pumping in rural areas and regions that are still not covered by the national electricity grid.

The agreement signed Friday is the result of a session of the mixed cooperation commission between the two countries held in Belgium in 2008 and a meeting of the Mozambique-Belgium social partnership commission, held in the same year. (macauhub)
