Luanda, Angola, 22 Sept – Exploration at iron and manganese mines in the Angolan provinces of Huíla and Kwanza Norte is due to be re-launched as of 2011, the National Director for Studies and Projects of the Ministry for Geology and Mines and the Ministry for Industry said Tuesday in Luanda.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, José Gonçalves said that the projects were part of the strategic plan for re-launching the national steel industry and would be carried out in the traditional exploration areas of Cassinga (Huíla province) and Cassala Quitono (Kwanza Norte province).
Gonçalves also said that carrying out the plan was based on knowledge of the potential of the traditional exploration areas, creating conditions for their industrialisation and sale of the raw materials.
According to Gonçalves, as part of the same plan US$8 million have been invested in construction of two iron ore processing factories in the provinces of Cabinda and Zaire. (macauhub)
