Cuito, Angola, 8 Oct – The provincial government of Bié in Angola is investing US$12 million in construction of the new reinforced concrete bridge over the Kuiva river, along the Kwanza (Kamacupa)/Kuemba road, Angolan news agency Angop reported.
Construction of the new bridge, which will be 160 metres long and 12 metres wide and be able to carry 80 tons, began in July after it was awarded to construction company Imbondex.
The site foreman, Jorge Luiz Silva, also told Angop that the company was also involved in construction of two bridges over the Kwanza and Lusselei rivers and another over the Kuquema river.
The work will consist of construction of new reinforced concrete bridges, with a view to providing improved transport of goods and passengers along the road and rail route.
The old bridges were destroyed during Angola’s civil war. (macauhub)
