Sao Paulo, Brazil, 12 Oct – Chinese imports of beef from Brazil in August rose more than 22-fold to a record of 2,203 tons, the Brazilian press reported in Sao Paulo.
In that month, overall Chinese beef imports were 3,737 tons, with year on year growth of 173 percent, with New Zealand the only supplier to post a drop in sales, 21 percent less to 137 tons.
Beef imports from Uruguay, currently China’s second largest supplier, rose 27 percent in August to 777 tons.
In the 12 months that ended in August Uruguay was the main supplier of beef to China, with a market share of 39 percent and 5,134 tons, followed by Brazil with 27 percent, Australia with 20 percent and New Zealand with 13 percent. (macauhub)
