US company Anadarko Petroleum makes new natural gas discovery in Mozambique

Houston, United States of America, 21 Oct – Anadarko Petroleum Corp announced on Tuesday in Houston that it had discovered natural gas at the Barquentine exploration well in area 1 of Mozambique’s Rovuma Basin.

With Barquentine and the previously announced discovery at the Windjammer well “we have identified substantial natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin,” said Bob Daniels, the company’s vice-president for global exploration.

The Barquentine well was drilled to a depth of 16,880 feet in waters 5,200 feet deep. When the well is consolidated, the company aims to move the Belford Dolphin drilling ship about 16 miles south to drill in the Lagosta exploration well.

Anadarko holds a 10,500 square km concession in which it is the operator with a 36.5 percent stake.

Other participants in the concession are Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1, Limited (20 percent), BPRL Ventures Mozambique B.V. (10 percent), Videocon Mozambique Rovuma 1 Limited (10 percent) and Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore, Ltd. (8.5 percent cento). The state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos also holds 15 percent. (macauhub)
