European Union grants support to Mozambique for food production

22 October 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 22 Oct – The European Union will provide 5.2 million euros to support the Food Production Action Plan under Mozambique’s National Agricultural Development Programme, per the terms of a convention to be signed today in Maputo.

The amount, which the government recently assigned as sector support to the state budget, is part of the EU’s rapid initiative to respond to higher food prices in developing countries.

Of the overall fund of about 1 billion euros, the EU has made a total of 22.2 million euros available for Mozambique, to be used during the period from 2009 to 2011.

This amount aims to support Mozambican government initiatives, specifically the Food Production Action Plan, whose aim is to increase agricultural production and favour conditions enabling this production sector to better respond to market opportunities. (macauhub)
